A letter from away…
” The night is one of those peculiar to late fall rather than approaching spring. A ceiling of clouds that appear to be heavily laden with snow, and beneath a margin of strange brilliance that seems always just at the horizon. The air is cold damp and refreshing, bringing with it that urge of the unknown which we ever failingly endeavour to solve, a suggestion that life is still worth living, “though why” we can’t exactly say, nor will we ever be able to do so.
Still the call is there beckoning ever onward to, apparently, the horizon, since there seems no other destination…” Joe

More Pictures from Friday’s perfect storm. I warned you we liked to talk about the weather…

The sailboat docks in the frozen harbour.
I brought along an umbrella to protect my camera from the snow somewhat, it was an umbrella failure in the swirling winds. Sharp umbrella skeleton bits poking out every which way. I have yet to find a decent umbrella that can stand up to a bit of wind.

we do like to talk about the weather. So bear with me while I ramble on in a visual language about how beautiful it was today. Not everyone would agree that freezing rain followed by heavy snow is nice weather but you can judge for yourself…of course I didn’t have to drive anywhere…

can look spectacular the day after when everything is iced over and glinting in the sun. And actually that kind of weather isn’t all that uncommon this winter. These images don’t even begin to bring it justice but it gives you a little taste of the fleeting silvery landscape.

This morning was very cold. The last few days have been in fact and yesterday when we went for a long ski it was so chilly (-15° c) I didn’t bother taking my camera. But I completely regretted it because the Escarpment was a wonderland like never before. The higher part of the park was completely frosted. There were places where every branch of every tree was sparkling with ice and snow. And the sun was shining. Breathtaking.
Something like these frosted branches below which I took pictures of this morning. Complete cheater pictures. There is only one small tree in my yard that looks like this and it’s frosted because the furnace is pumping out toxic steam onto it. Sorry. It was still kind of pretty in the morning light. Lesson learned…
