I’m so jealous of all the people who’s photos looks like it was converted to b&w…. oh no wait….. it’s just covered in snow!!!! 🙂 Beautiful as always Karen!!! I love how you’ve cropped the first photo!!! 🙂 **
Xandre, I did actually convert these to black and white and then toned them a subtle blue. The colours were minimal to begin with though. Much thanks! 🙂
So that’s what Snow Buntings look like! I really like how you play with your picture formats Karen. It really gives them a different energy. So engaging.
In that second picture, the flock and the plants have a unity to them; you can tell they are part of the same ecosystem. I think it’s the limited palate that brings that out.
Lovely colours… the snow looks amazing 🙂
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjVsY3ZbsBI reminded me of the song ‘Winter Birds’ by Ray Lamontagne. Same sort of calming effect.
I love that song. I’ve heard it many times but I didn’t know what is was called. Thanks James.
I can’t remember the last time I saw a bird : /
That’s a little bit scary….
Thanks for sharing yours!!
Really?! No birds around where you live. I couldn’t imagine what that would be like. I hope some cross your path soon! 🙂
The flock of snow buntings……beautiful. Minimal tones yet so eye catching.
Lovely. What camera are you using?
Hi Jane, thank you.
These images were made on a Nikon D7000
I can feel the cold in these. Love the composition(s)
Like chinese paintings on porcelain …exquisite
I like that interpretation Helen! Thanks
beautiful as always. You captured some lovely photos 🙂
Where’s the LOVE button. I agree with hellenjc – the images remind me of Chinese art, which I have an affinity for. Lovely treatment 🙂
Aw thank you Marina! 🙂

Thanks Distan, I love playing around with compositions to make the most out of an image.

Yes, they were actually ground feeding off all those little seed laden plants in the pictures.
I love these. Just so soft and beautiful. Great images!
These are beautiful pictures. The sensitive use of a very limited palette captures perfectly the atmosphere of the scene.
Very lovely. The limited colors of winter can be so restful. Birds in the snow always make me wonder how they survive in the cold and baron land.
Photographers are artists…many folks don’t understand that. I could lead them here and show them some perfect examples of why…great as usual!
What a lovely thing to say Cindy! Thank you so much. 🙂
Just the simple beauty of the nature. Great birds shots, Karen! 🙂
I’m always stunned by the resiliency of birds in winter. They seem so vulnerable to cold, like the little fella in the photo I posted a few days ago.
I always feel pangs of concern for them.
These shots make me shiver but they rule!
Your pictures are gorgeous! Where do you live? (Area, promise I’m not trying to stalk you!)
I just love all your nature photos!
