Another small collection of things from the river shoreline. Yes, more dead stuff…
Starting with a duck skull.
Fierce.

Quite amazing treasures Karen. Stuff that other people would probably trample right over and you have found such beauty.
Thank you Shari, I find them interesting, I’m glad you do also.
I was thinking to myself how I liked the shadow play as I scrolled…and then you captioned my thought. Javanese Wayang Kulit comes to mind. Intriguing.
Ah, shadow puppets. I had to look that up! Thank you Scilla.
These are so cool and interesting. love how you presented them with the great shadows.
Thanks Inga. 🙂
Neat finds and shots Karen.
Hi Al!
Thank you. 🙂
Interesting pictures this (as always)!
Thanks for that comment Bente, I appreciate it.
nice title for an interesting post.
Thanks Elizabeth.
More little creatures 🙂 Aren’t they uncanny? What is that other bird? Is it a kind of gull? Never boring 🙂
I think it might be a gull actually but I don’t know for sure. Thanks for your very nice comment! 🙂
Light and shadow. Thank you.
And Happy Secular Easter, Karen.
Le Zombie Clown
Thank you Le Zombie Clown. 🙂
Love the crab claws! Beautiful photographs with cast shadows. Love the varied compositions with intense color and texture against the white backdrop. Love the other dead things as well… Fascinating 🙂 superb work!
Hi Polly, thanks so much, I’m glad you find them fascinating. 😀
Great job, Karen! This reminds me of the cat skull I painted once upon a time: http://millieho.net/2012/01/17/the-cat-skull-of-2009/
Lots of interesting shadow-play when you put a complicated sculpture with a simple white background.
Hi Millie,
It’s interesting how the underside of the duck skull looks like a fierce cat (to my eye anyway).
Yes, I love playing with shadows! 🙂
Love love love! Especially the third image from the bottom – the shadow is so playful (it looks like an open-mouthed dinosaur)!
Hi Marina, thanks! I’m glad you find them amusing, it is interesting to me to explore shadows with certain objects. The little claw was a willing participant! 🙂
Lovely series. The duck skull is amazing — do you know what the other, sharp-beaked skull is?
thank you Mufidah, I think it might be a kind of gull, I’m looking into it…
Ah, do let me know if you manage to find out.
Great stuff !! Loved scrolling down the page to find the wide-mouthed animals at the bottom 😀
Aw thanks Helen! Much appreciated.
These elegant shadows cause my perception to click in and out of objects & shadows.
They create an interesting/ creative brain delight for me.
“brain delight” is a great comment! I’m glad you have that reaction, thank you Elena!
So funny – ‘more dead stuff’ ! I do like the skulls – very sculptural. And I always love your light and shadow. Have a great week – Kathleen
I know, one of these days I will have to move on to live stuff…
It will be shocking! 🙂
Thanks Kathleen, have a great week yourself!
Amazing what impact the shadow can make. I can see that you really enjoyed playing with these vestiges 🙂
Yes, shadows are fun, thank you. 🙂
Cool collection. Great photographs.
Thank you Allen!
I love the “Mouse Root” and here all these years I thought they were born, not sprouted. 😉
I havent planted it yet but I’m kind of curious…
😉
I like the leftover bits. Even today, I’ll find a hunk of something that used to be living and turn it over and over to examine it’s every detail.
I can relate Posky!
It feels like I’m in some grand museum, studying the carefully curated exhibits. I love it!
Aw thanks Ray, a very nice nice thing to say. Free admission too 😉
Oh, your eye. You really are amazing.
Oh, thank you. I very much appreciate that coming from you.
ooh dark and shivery..I like..great shadows and cold beauty..
Thank you Cath. 🙂
A while back I did a study on a seal head/skull and I always like the final images. It is with that that that I enjoy your excellent images.
Oh how interesting Grant. Did you post those? I don’t remember seeing them.
Thank you.
I did, well I posted one take. http://sideways-glance.com/2011/09/29/the-warning/
I like a post that starts with the words ‘more dead stuff’. Duck skull!!!! 0_0 Will definitely have to sketch that ^^ Thanks for bringing us the beautiful photos!
😀
I’ll be looking forward to that! Thank you.
“more dead stuff” … What is the dead stuff in the second last photo? A baby bird? Extraordinary. Thankyou for making it not too creepy! lol! 🙂
Gigi, the last little bits are actually roots from water plants, but they seem to be little characters to me! 🙂
I completly missed these when you first posted them, they are just stunning. The second one is reminisant of HR Giger’s Alien. Just wonderful.
Oh yes, I see the fierce resemblance! Cool.
Thank you Brendan!
Oh, wow! – and as I have said many times before, your sets ought to be exhibited! They are of professional quality and full of artistry! Love them all!
Cheers
John
John, you are very kind with your enthusiasm! Thanks again!
Great series, Karen! Love the different perspectives and the playing around with shadow.
I’m glad you find them interesting, thank you!
