Just cold enough for the morning fog to arrange shattery fringes on winter flowers.
Still, there are meager promises of spring, promises that are easily withdrawn.
One small exhale would blow the stars away…
Thank you, Melinda – we are supposed to have a snowstorm tomorrow! Another 10-15cm. But today has been gorgeous!
Beautiful images – but somehow they seem to suggest an air of uncertainty. Here in the UK the ‘unseasonal’ flowering of some plants is indicative of a state of confusion in nature.
Yes, Louis, I know what you mean about unseasonable flowering – we had that happen last spring with an early heat wave and many early blossoming fruit trees lost their buds in a frost. Thanks for your comment.
It’s refreshing to see your work, because it seems to be informed by a real love for the subject and the process. There are so many people taking pictures just because they can, and to get an “Oh cool” reaction. Yours go deeper – thanks for posting.
Hehe, I think sci-fi when I look at these. Day of the Triffids; Star Trek; Body Snatchers, Little Shop of Horrors…. They have a certain beauty, yes, but for me they look a little formidable! 🙂
Well our days downunder are getting shorter, so spring is coming to you northerners!
Beautiful captures -I will be inspired to look for some beauty like this in our winter instead of just lamenting about the cold!!
Trading seasons – there is always something to discover at any time, isn’t there? I think being out in the landscape no matter what the season, is what makes each shift beautiful. Thank you, Madoqua.
Lovely and delicate! Your description of “shattery fringes” is perfect and so evocative! I think we might be a little further on with Spring, but not much. It’s still very cold here!
Those “shattery fringes” look like stars balanced on the tips of the flowers.
And “meager promises of spring, promises that are easily withdrawn” is a lovely line.

Promise already being withdrawn, I guess!
We had a blizzard yesterday – and blizzards in Texas are uncommon…
Yes,unfortunately! Were you out taking photographs in the snow? I suppose it won’t last too long?
Exquisite!
Thank you, Allen – it was a lovely discovery.
Nice studies, Karen!
Thank you, Steve!
Wonderful !!!
Thanks very much! : )

Thanks very much for your feedback – it’s such a nice comment and I’m glad you think so. I am a bit enamored with all things nature.
Light is definitely of the spring and sparkling.
Beautiful !
Yes, a hint of spring. It feels very hopeful.
Thank you, Yoshizen.
So beautiful Karen!
Thanks, Adrian!
Little miracles, each and every crystal, stem and petal. Extraordinary.
They are rather amazing little frost blooms – I imagine your little bird girl would perch in one of these if she was in the neighbourhood. : )
I see a human gesture in your fifth image, both delicate and beautiful.
I can see that, too, now that you mention it. Thank you!
Their fragility speaks to the humanity in us. Lovely and poignant.
Yes, fragility at perhaps it’s most delicate. Thanks very much, Judy.
fine and delicate! Superb!
Thank you, Mimo.
¡Preciosas tomas Karen!!
Gracias, Manoli. : )
such delicate wonders – so beautiful, Karen. Our snow is just about melted away – sending it on its way up to you! K
Thanks for the snow, Kathleen! We have a thick fresh blanket of it. : ) It’s warmish, though. I love that it’s warming up a bit.
frozen petals? a flower within a flower? I hope Spring is close by for you Karen! very pretty series!
Yes, a flower within a flower. I love that nature comes up with these things! : )
But, thanks to you, they are no longer temporary!!!
Beautiful, Karen!
🙂
Thank you, Marina. : )
Your style is unmistakeable and really thrilling, i like so much your work. Take care, Karen.
Thrilling, Antonio? I am touched that you would feel that. Much thanks!
Beautiful in its delicacy and much much more!
Thank you.

Ha, I like your take on these, Distan. Nature morphing into something strange…
Delicate yet powerful – an ever surprising mix. And spring? No rush: there are still three potentially lovely weeks of winter…
Thank you, Alessandro. It is the long winters that make spring such a pleasure. We work with whatever we have !
Beautifully nice. I love them, Karen!
Thank you, Bente. I’m glad you do.
They really look like they’re showing off their lovely spidery ice gloves. Beautiful shots.
Ice glove, yes – they are a bit like that. Thanks ever so much, Richard.

Another striking set, Karen.
Thank you, Gabriel!
Gorgeous series with wonderful light and details. Love it! 🙂
Iced fingered wishes..wonderful..
delicate frozen fringes…
Wow, unusual blooms indeed. 🙂
Great photos as always. I am a huge fan of your DoFs.

Your macro shots are so lovely!
So much beauty and fragility in this series, Karen. Remarkable photos – truly stunning work.
Oh, so beautiful, Karen….
Beautiful crystals.

(sigh – this reminds me that summer is ending – as I looked through your archives in august – i’m not ready for winter.. yet…)
