Xandre, I did actually convert these to black and white and then toned them a subtle blue. The colours were minimal to begin with though. Much thanks! 🙂

In that second picture, the flock and the plants have a unity to them; you can tell they are part of the same ecosystem. I think it’s the limited palate that brings that out.
Yes, they were actually ground feeding off all those little seed laden plants in the pictures.

These are beautiful pictures. The sensitive use of a very limited palette captures perfectly the atmosphere of the scene.
Very lovely. The limited colors of winter can be so restful. Birds in the snow always make me wonder how they survive in the cold and baron land.
Photographers are artists…many folks don’t understand that. I could lead them here and show them some perfect examples of why…great as usual!

I’m always stunned by the resiliency of birds in winter. They seem so vulnerable to cold, like the little fella in the photo I posted a few days ago.
I always feel pangs of concern for them.
These shots make me shiver but they rule!
