Yes, they are marked for cutting, I think. : ( We’ve lost most of our ash trees around here the last few years (due to an insect) but these are marked for cutting along a roadside. I’m not sure why, exactly, or what sort of trees they are. Thanks, Ashley.
The red line always is a bit depressing when I see them on trees ~ and these shots are such a strong & creative look and feel that I have when I experience such a scene (although sometimes it is necessary for them to be cut down). Still… Great series Karen.
Oh! Fantastic! But has someone spray painted that line on the trees?

Oh dear. Why does that remind me of black & white photos of people with yellow stars pinned on their overcoats?
Oh my, I’m going to have to think about that one, Scilla.
Oh dear Scilla ! but I can see your point.
It was an immediate, visceral reaction….surprised me, but there it was.
Condemned.
I feel that way when working in forestry blocks all marked up for “harvesting”.
simply stunning
Thanks very much, Anthony. That long line of marked trees certainly got my attention.
No doubt
Strangely powerful images for Earth Day.

A profound take on loss in nature, Karen. Excellent series for the day.
I really like the red lines and the black and white trees. It’s festive in a sort of worrying way.
Fabulous photos Karen, a shame to see the trees condemned like that!
I love this shot. Just beautiful
Earth Day, a line of extermination…profound and terribly beautiful.
Wonderful, but are these trees marked for the chop?
Hi.
Very interesting photos. The red marks are an attractive point of contrast on the woodscape.
Regards.
The red feels like blood. Shiver.
Absolutely surreal.
This is unreal. Stunning and eerie at the same time. I can’t begin to imagine how the landscape will appear after so much chopping… Sensational set!
A bittersweet capture……..it does look like they are doomed.
I truly love these images, Karen. Inspired.
This pictures tells a lot – about what we have forgot..
Ominous and very effective treatment.
