I guess I’ve been all over the place lately with my work. I haven’t had too much time to walk the earth so I’ve been working with some constructed imagery.
It sort of feels like watching stringed balloons slip away.
Superb yet again, Karen. Your vision and artistry is just so wonderful. I’m curious, did you set out to create this? Was it through iterative experimentation? Borrowed inspiration? Something else? I’d love to hear how your artists’ mind worked for this image because you make me question my own abilities and hence limitations. It’s so great to see how your work is evolving. As well as being personally inspiring.
I did not set out to create this when I made the initial photographs, but I was trying to put together an image that expressed what I often think about – our relationship with the landscape from different perspectives. The good and bad, give and take, push and pull of living on the earth. So I tried layering images that might express that. Iterative is a good word! There is a lot of experimenting in the doing but I love the process. It sort of like painting in a different way.
Breathtaking imagery. I like both images placed together as a diptych.
Close to me because like the lone figure I walk on the littoral, breath the ozone at the coastal edge of the wild Southern Ocean (at the bottom of the world).
The moody nostalgia struck a chord.
What’s more compelling than the littoral zone? You are fortunate to be so close. Each time I stand at the ocean I think that is where I feel most alive.
Thanks for your wonderful comments, Elaine, and your gorgeous art that explores these similar relationships.
Hei Karen! I have to say wow!!!! What a picture! Like a story. Many stories. And a lot of feelings. I cant decide me, I se so many different stories her. Maybee one today, and another tomorrow. Well done 🙂 Gro
My WP Reader has totally changed (and messed up) how I look at and comment on other’s blogs and it is now not just difficult but close to impossible. Not sure what the problem is but if you don’t see me around for a while until this hopefully gets fixed, that’s the reason. Sorry.
Hi Phil, yes it’s a strange change that have put in. It makes it much more difficult to get to the actual post/blog and almost seems to discourage it. It’s a shame because the post is not read in it’s true context if it is only read in the ‘reader’. Anyway, I prefer to go to the actual blog…
No worries about dropping by! : )
This is so startling and beautiful! It looks like Scotland, the scene is so familiar! And the joy and energy of the figure in it, you! So lovely! LBD or Little white dress … ? That is the question 🙂
I guess this would be just across the sea from Scotland! It’s a Cape Breton shoreline. Do you miss Scotland, Gigi?
Thanks for your lovely comment.
Nothing is really black and white, is it …? ; )
These photos are mesmerizing. I like the painterly quality and the mysterious narrative. I echo what others have said – you are a brilliant and imaginative photographer, a true artist.

Such a powerful image..I remember when you first posted part of this, I love how it has developed..it feels so very searching somehow, as if things are a little uncertain in the strong winds..but then the same feeling emanates from the figure as it did before by the open sea, it feels that there is some solidity there, and a sense of belonging, you are there on the ground..very interesting and thought provoking, my favourite kind of image – I like them a lot!!
Wow! Such a departure from your usual, Karen. What a wonderful surprise! I like these SO much! Bravo!

Oh, and thank you, Ashley! : )
Well, I think these are really great, Karen.
There is such drama in these two – stories waiting to be told, and many questions to answer.
I’m glad you think so, Anna. Thanks for your words.
Very puzzling and moving at the same time. Lovely, atmospheric mystery!
Images from a muddled mind…
: )
Thanks, Steven!
Absolutely marvelous Karen! Pulled right from a dream.
Thanks so much, Elena! : )
I think I want to cry, but that’s ok, this is beautiful!
Oh, goodness, that’s a strong reaction! Thanks, Patti.
Karen, your images take me away from the reality of this hum-drum world… I am addicted to its magnetic pull through mesmerizing beauty and mystery!
: ) Aw, much thanks for your words, J. xx

Hauntingly beautiful Karen!…( maritimes ?)
Yes, the Maritimes! Thank you, Marianne.
This is brilliant, Karen!
Reminds me of the one letter difference in ‘violet’ vs. ‘violent’.
I like that word comparison, Millie. thnaks very much!
Reblogged this on fijifootprintz and commented:

Is there no end to your imagination Karen 🙂 Superb.
Ah, much thanks, David. That is kind of you. : )
misteriously brilliant!!
Thanks very much, Jesús. I’m glad you like it!
Either is cool on its own, Karen. But together the interest level soars. I like what you did with these.
Thank you, Steve. I was thinking of the idea of positive and negative and how we relate to the landscape in both these ways.
I’m glad you like it!

Aw, thanks so much, Distan. You are very kind!

The two sides of a coin, one for the real expectations and one for our dreams, but both adhering to the same feeling of longing and hope.
Beautifully put, Marcelo. Thanks for that.
What a wonderful picture, Karen! Like in a dream. And I can see a story. Many stories. Good and sad.
Pretty incredible, Karen. I can imagine these for a book cover for a story of loss and redemption in the Maritimes.
Thanks for you comment, Judy. Doing a book cover could be fun!
I would love to do a book cover as well, Karen.
Lovely! Title and image are a perfect match… 🙂
Thank you, Steve! I had many ideas for the title – it’s funny how hung up on titles one can get…
Indeed. Sometimes they come easy, sometimes not…
Brilliant.
Much thanks, Mary.
exceptional vision
Thank you, Nathan.
Bold and stormy and utterly involving. Absolutely beautiful.
Thanks so very much, Richard!
These are wonderful Karen – I really think including figures in your work takes them to a new level!
Hi Christian, thank you! Yes, I’ve had a series in mind for a while that includes the figure but I seem to be getting to it slowly…
That is totally ok!!!!!
Breathtaking imagery. I like both images placed together as a diptych.

Absolutely stunning. Really it is !
Thank you, Polina.
very spooky Karen…. and I LOVE it !!
Aw, thanks, Helen! I’m glad you do.
Like a dream, with a tiny bit of nightmare. Some story!
Thank you, Bente. I was thinking (as I often do) about our relationship to the natural world. Which I suppose is part dream, part nightmare!
Hei Karen! I have to say wow!!!! What a picture! Like a story. Many stories. And a lot of feelings. I cant decide me, I se so many different stories her. Maybee one today, and another tomorrow. Well done 🙂 Gro
Thanks so very much, Gro! I like the idea that it could be interpreted different ways, at different times. In continual flux, like the sea…
Beau et très émouvant !
Un grand merci à vous, Kristel.
WOW !
: )
Magnificent work, Karen. Great to contrast the two.
Thank you, Simon!

brilliant concept, brilliant execution. and a mystery wrapped in an enigma, as they say.
Much thanks for your gracious words, Michael. I’m pleased you respond to this piece.
i like the thought . i am glad i found your site.
Thank you, Hai. I’m happy to have found your work too!
Like the concept here, personally, I prefer just looking at the top half as an image on its own.
Best wishes
